Stop Trading Your Life for the Television

50 Things to do Instead of Watching TV

Time. It is one of our most precious commodities, and yet, it is something that so many of us squander without giving a second thought as to how it might be better spent. One thing that never ceases to bewilder me, is how often people will say to me that they don’t have time to go out and pursue their dreams–and yet, those same people can tell you everything that happened during the last season of Game of ThronesThe Walking Dead or The Bachelor.

Now, please, please don’t take this wrong. I am not saying any of this in judgement, since I too, enjoy watching TV on occasion and understand that there is a time and a place in life for guilty pleasure. However; I do know (from personal experience) how much more fulfilling, enjoyable and rewarding life can be when we make the effort to regain control of our time and pull ourselves away from the television. I mean think about it…we all trade the minutes of our lives for something; do you really want that thing to be hours of zoned out disconnection in front of a glowing box?

If you are ready to start taking back control of your time (and ultimately, your life) and weaning yourself from hours spent in front of the television, here are 50 suggestions of things that you can do instead of watch TV.

Tap into Your Sisu When the Going Gets Tough

Tap into My what??

What is it about Scandinavians? They consistently rank as among the happiest people on the planet and they have some of the funniest sounding words (remember my recent post on Hygge, yep that’s a Scandinavian word too). Still…funny vocabulary aside–the rest of us on planet earth could certainly benefit by taking note of some of these Scandinavian words, and incorporating into our routines, the concept that the words define–like for instance, the word sisu.

Reignited and it Feels SO Good

7 Ways to Light Your Fire When You're Feeling Burned Out

Oh burnout. It catches up with all of us at one time or another. Maybe we’ve run ourselves ragged trying to keep up with kids, work, mortgage payments…life. Or, perhaps our burnout is the result of chasing our dream, but chasing a little too hard. I’ve experienced both.

The crazy thing about burnout is that it isn’t always easy to recognize. We may feel a little cranky or out of sorts, or maybe we just have a hard time dragging ourselves out of bed in the morning. It comes on subtly and without warning; but without proper tending, burnout can suck us into spiral of depression, lethargy and disconnection that can be incredibly difficult to escape.

The key to overcoming burnout is to reignite your passion for life. There is a huge difference between being “on fire” and being burned out; and all you need to do to go from the latter to the former is to rediscover your spark and then, throw some fuel on it.

The trick is to recognize the early symptoms of burnout and then treat the underlying cause of those symptoms. Here are seven easy ways to do just that…

The Sure-Fire Secret to Living a Life You Love

What if I told you that I had a secret that was guaranteed to help you experience more success, joy, prosperity and abundance than you ever thought was possible for your life? Would you think that I was yanking your chain? Would you think that I was just trying to sell you some hocus-pocus snake oil that was nothing more than over hyped, empty promises?

Yeah…me too.

Or, at least I would have thought that, before I discovered that there really was something that, when applied liberally and in regular doses, could actually increase success levels beyond expectations.

Fortunately, this isn’t any witch doctor voo-doo, nor is it some big secret that you have to shell out thousands of dollars on some over-priced personal development seminar to receive. It’s simple (though not necessarily easy) and it is free for anyone to access (whether or not they choose to actually use it). This magical, sure-fire secret to success is none other than good old,

What’s Stopping You?

Seven Barriers Between You and Your Dream and How to SMASH them

Okay–here’s the deal…no matter how FabYOUlous your life currently is, there are still things that you hope to achieve, experience, be, do or have in life. Even the least ambitious among us have something that they want to accomplish–even if it’s just making their way to the fridge for another beer (though I’m assuming that FabYOUlous Life readers are far more ambitious than that!).

So…if we all have goals and aspirations that we want to pursue, what is stopping us from doing just that? What is it that keeps us mired in the quicksand of stagnation that robs us of valuable days, weeks, months and even years? Sadly, the answer to that question can usually be found by looking in the mirror. WE are the ones who sabotage our own efforts when we establish habits that run counter to our aspirations. These habits are so easy to fall into, but once we acknowledge their existence, we can begin taking strategic action to break them and reverse their pull. Check your own life against this list of Seven Dream Barrier Habits to see which bad habits you need to break once and for all; and then, follow the prescribed actions to get momentum back working in your favor again.
