Who’s in Your Posse?

You ARE the Company You Keep

We all have a posse.  Maybe we don’t ride around on horses yelling “yee-haw” together, but we all have those people in our lives that we regularly surround ourselves with. Some members of my posse include my hubby, my girlfriends (also affectionately known as my “broad squad”), my parents and some work associates. These people play a part in my life that is more than just the casual acquaintance.

I’ve heard it said that we will all be judged by the company we keep. That is precisely why I do the very best that I can to surround myself with good people. I also preach this bit of truth to my sons because I think that the people that we associate with can do one of two things for us–they can either lift us higher or they can drag us down. I’ve had both types of people in my life and I’ve learned the hard way how difficult it can be to escape from those individuals whose purpose it seems to be to suck the life out of everyone around them. I’ve also learned how damaging to ones reputation and psyche it can be if one spends too much time in the company of people with questionable character or who are emotionally unstable.

Sit and Plank…

Can't be That Hard Right??

Oh my gosh…SOOOOO wrong!  Ugh!  I am a 44 year old woman who considers herself to be in decent shape.  I run regularly (and even WON my age group in a recent 5K!) and I’m not overweight. Though I feel pretty good about my cardio fitness due to the running, I’ve always felt like I should be doing more in the way of strength training. Problem is…I hate strength training. Seriously…HATE it. So, rather than trying to become a gym rat like my husband and sons; I decided to come up with my own little strength training routine that I could do at night before taking my bath.  I decided to start out with something easy like a minute long plank followed by a three minute wall sit and then ten push ups. Sounds simple enough doesn’t it?  Well guess what…it’s NOT easy!

What Does it Mean to be Spiritual?

This is a question that I get asked a lot and admittedly, it’s a difficult question to answer. I think that the difficulty lies in the fact that there are so many possible answers out there depending upon whom you ask.  A Tibetan Monk is likely to provide a very different answer than a Catholic Priest would.  A Wiccan Priestess will no doubt define spirituality much differently than would a Jewish Rabbi or Muslim Imam.

Does this mean that there is no correct way to answer the question “what is spirituality?” I don’t believe so.  Instead, I believe that this simply means that spirituality should only be defined by one’s own personal experience of it.  Connecting to our spirit is a highly individualized practice and yet it is one of the quickest ways that we can truly embrace, honor and radiate the FabYOUlousness inside of us.

10 Ways to Jump-Start Your Fab-YOU-lousness

846f76_d96c5f3aa86541cba1f987485c65e7d0It is winter and I live in Colorado.  That can only mean one thing…IT’S COLD.  Don’t get me wrong—there is nothing that can compare to the beauty of the gorgeous Rocky Mountains in winter (except maybe the gorgeous Rocky Mountains in spring, summer and fall!) but as beautiful as it is; it is still COLD.

These cold temps are not only hard on humans and animals—they can also take a toll on vehicles.  In fact, just the other day I saw two different cars being jump-started in the parking lot at my office.  As I stood inside my relatively warm (thanks to my ever present space heater) office and watched out the window; I caught myself feeling a little sorry for and even empathetic towards those two cars.  Now, before you call the psych ward on me—yes, I know that cars are inanimate objects that don’t experience emotions.  Still, on some level, I felt like I could relate to their plight.  I mean—who among us hasn’t needed a little jump-start at one point or another in our life?  I know that I certainly have.

Take a good look at your life and tell me…do you like what you see?  Now, I’m not just talking about your physical appearance or the decor in your home or office here. I’m talking about the circumstances that you find yourself in right now.  Do you take the time to notice the good and the beautiful that you have in your life right at this very moment?  Or, are you too overwhelmed with just trying to get through the day that you rarely bother to open your eyes and appreciate the beauty that is right in front of you?
