This is our fourth and final post in our chakra series. If you missed the other posts, you can check out Getting to Know Your Chakras here, Use Your Chakras to Energize Your Life here and Ancient Cure for Modern Day Stress here.

By now, you’ve hopefully come to realize that the study of chakra energy isn’t just a bunch of new age hooey, and that managing your chakras can truly add a greater level of vitality to your life.

This final post is a bit of a wrap-up with some additional suggestions for upping your chakral energy.

Though all seven of our chakras are designed to work together to improve and develop our entire being, they are at once, interdependent and independent. They each have specific roles and functions within our energy system and yet they each contribute to the vitality of the collective whole. If any one of your seven chakras seems to have a “hitch in its giddyup” (as my grandpa used to say) it can have an effect on the entire system. If that seems to be the case, you might want to try the following suggestions to shake up your chakras and get the energy flowing again.

Shake up your Root Chakra:

This base chakra (Muladhara) is located in your tailbone and is represented by the color red. It is most closely tied to one’s sense of security, self-preservation and basic survival.

One of the biggest energy zappers for this chakra is negative self-talk that is filled with self-doubt. In order to shake up this chakra and get the energy flowing again, it is imperative that you stop sabotaging yourself with negativity. Confront and challenge your self doubts. Visualize your tasks as successfully completed and imagine the sense of achievement that you’ll experience once they are. Learn to listen to your body and learn to release any tension that you feel when you are faced with challenges.

This chakra can also be energized by eating red foods such as apples, raspberries, and strawberries, adding a pop of red to your wardrobe and using aromatherapy with earthy fragrances such as cedarwood. Finally, if you just can’t seem to pull yourself out of a negative spiral, try sharing your concerns with a supportive friend or trained professional.

Shake up your Sacral Chakra:

Located in your lower abdomen, the Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana) is represented by the color orange. The energy of this chakra is tied to one’s feelings and sexuality while also being associated with movement, creativity, doing and achievement. Its energy translates into excitement.

If you find yourself procrastinating or spending too much time alone on the couch, your Sacral Chakra is in definite need of a boost because idleness, indecision, and laziness are all symptoms of a blocked Sacral Chakra. To give your Sacral Chakra a shake up, seek out ways to get moving again by doing things in step-by-step phases. Additionally, soothing water exercise and yoga can be good ways to ease yourself back into movement which will release this powerful chakral energy and bring the thrill of excitement back into your life.

The Sacral Chakra is associated with the element water, so another way to release its energy is to listen to water sounds like rainfall, ocean waves or waterfalls. You can also relax in a soothing bath (infused with essential oils such as Rosewood, Clary Sage or Jasmine) or shower.

Shake up your Solar Plexus Chakra:

Also known as Manipura, this chakra is located in your stomach area and is represented by the color yellow. The energy of this chakra is manifested in your feelings of clarity and is closely associated with one’s sense of power, confidence and self-control.

This chakra tends to become blocked as a result of a lack of planning or the absence of order, therefore, the quickest way to shake up this chakra is to restore order and create structures and guidelines for your life. Another suggestion is to learn to harness your energy by matching your tasks to your personal energy level. For example–do you creative, high-energy activities in the morning and your more routine tasks during the afternoon when energy levels are typically lower. Wearing the color yellow and exposing yourself to more sunshine are also ways to help boost your Solar Plexus Chakral energy.

Additionally, the Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the element fire so listening to the sound of a roaring fire in a fireplace can help to boost its energy, as can burning fragrant incense with hints of lemon, Frankincense and Myrrh

Shake up your Heart Chakra:

The Heart Chakra (also known as Anahata) is located in the center of your chest and is represented by the color green. As can be expected, this chakra relates to all aspects of kindness and loving connection to others. You’ll experience this chakral energy flowing when you are engaging with others in a collaborative effort or experiencing feelings of affection or connection with others.

If you find yourself isolated from others and not receiving emotional support, your Heart Chakra is blocked. This can be remedied most quickly by seeking out opportunities to spend quality time with your loved ones. Look for ways to connect with others on an emotional level while forming supportive partnerships. Simply spreading kindness and compassion to others is another effective way to shake up this chakra.

The element of air is associated with the Heart Chakra so getting fresh air, either by opening a window, flying a kite or even just taking deep, cleansing breaths can also help to awaken this chakral energy

Shake up your Throat Chakra:

As the name implies, this chakra is located in your throat and is represented by the color blue. It is also known as Visuddha and is associated with communication and self expression. It deals with beliefs, language and metaphors.

When the Throat Chakra is blocked, it manifests itself an inability to express one’s thoughts and in a lack of focus. You can shake up your Throat Chakra by saying the things that you are most afraid to say. If this is too difficult at first, you can ease into this by journaling as a way of connecting with your inner thoughts and reflections. Talking with others, singing and learning to speak your truth are the quickest ways to get your Throat Chakral energy flowing again.

Additional ways to quickly activate the energy of the Throat Chakra include wearing shades of blue or turquoise and eating blue foods such as blueberries, grapes and blackberries.

Shake up your Third Eye (Brow) Chakra:

Also called Anja, the Third Eye Chakra is located between your eyes and is represented by the color indigo. Its energy is manifested in the form of intuition, wisdom and balance.

The truest indicator of a blocked Third Eye Chakra is a busy life with no time for personal reflection. Shake up this chakra by lighting a candle (preferably with a lavender, jasmine or geranium fragrance) and meditating upon its flame. You can also energize this chakra by taking up a creative activity such as writing, drawing or painting, or by taking a walk in nature in order to get back in touch with your mind and body. This chakra is also affected by outward clutter so taking the time to tidy your home and work space can help to release this chakral energy.

Shake up your Crown Chakra:

Located on the top of your head and represented by the color violet, this chakra (also known as Sahasrara) is associated with your connection to a higher purpose and is manifested in experiences of transcendence an consciousness.

The number one thing that blocks the energy of this powerful chakra is an obsession with materialistic things. To shake up this chakra, try donating some of your worldly possessions to charity. You can also boost this chakral energy by meditating regularly which will allow you to tap into your higher consciousness or by participating in religious activities which will help you to get in touch with your spiritual origins. Some people also find it beneficial to hold certain crystals (such as white calcite, clear quartz or amethyst) in their palms as they meditate.

Hopefully, the four posts that we have included in this chakra series have been enough to pique your interest and make you want to learn more about the fascinating power of chakral energy.
